My name is Marlowe Bidforth, in 1996 I left the safety of my parent's house to go to the Chemist, I never returned. I always dreamed of travelling, so I quit my job, got a loan from Natwest, a passport, a sturdy backpack and a laptop (Now with a mobile phone internet connection and digital camera) and set off.
My journey of exploration is inspired by my great great grandfather Johann Bidforth who was a famous lone traveller a long time before me.
Keep it real Grandad.
Can I take this opportunity to apologise to Natwest for not repaying the loan, should I ever return to England I fully intend to come to some arrangement to repay the £15,000 I owe. As an interim measure I consider my travels unofficially sponsered by The Natwest Bank and wish them well. I would also like to personally recommend The Natwest Bank if you are getting a loan, especially if you are thinking of skipping the country without paying it back.
I have set up this website to record my travels. I carry my laptop everywhere, but battery power is limited so don't expect hourly updates. I will post any photos I take here, try to keep up a daily diary and occasionally get my webcam going.

I am currently (November 2001) in Borneo, to the left is a picture of some amazing dipterocarp trees that lead down into a valley few people have ever seen (until now!). The water you can see in the picture is a river the local people call Tra-ta, and I intend to follow it and try not to get killed by animals, disease, guerrillas, gorillas or enormous poisonous snakes along the way.
WISH ME LUCK!! :)     (FAQ)
